Position Title: Senior Operation Technician

Job Purpose
The Senior Operations Technician is responsible for leading and maintaining efficient and safe production operations by conducting equipment monitoring actions and proactively maintain & control plant parameters. This role involves executing field interventions, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders, and actively engaging in operational tasks to achieve production goals, uphold quality standards, and adhere to HSE regulations.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
1. Health and Safety Compliance
· Consistently comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), HSE standards, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
· Remain fully familiar with high-potential hazards within the assigned area and ensure readiness for emergency response.
· Take appropriate action during abnormal or emergency situations in coordination with DCS Engineer, Supervisor and Shift Leader to safeguard personnel, equipment, and the environment.
· Minimize environmental emissions and ensure proper reporting of spills, waste generation, or non-compliance incidents.
2. Report Verification and Oversight
· Receive and execute priority jobs assigned by the DCS operator and Supervisor, such as valve operations, equipment isolation, or system verification.
· Ensure compliance of operational parameters with defined limits and promptly escalate deviations to the DCS operator, Supervisor, or Lead Shift Engineer.
· Oversee and validate shift handovers, logbooks, and the past operational performance to identify issues requiring follow-up.
3. Documentation and Reporting
· Accurately complete and countersign field log sheets, operation checklists, and start-up/safety checklists in a timely manner.
· Record all shift activities, including special operating conditions, corrective actions taken, and abnormalities observed, ensuring proper handover to the relieving operator.
· Maintain comprehensive documentation of shift performance by compiling, analyzing, and documenting shift data, facilitating the creation of detailed shift reports to support operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
4. Corrective Maintenance Work Orders
· Clearly define any operational or equipment-related issues, attempt resolution where feasible, and immediately escalate unresolved problems to the Supervisor.
· Take corrective action within safe operating limits to restore normal conditions and ensure documentation of all actions.
· Propose improvements to operating practices and procedures to enhance efficiency and reliability.
5. Equipment Inspection and Monitoring
· Conduct regular and advanced visual inspections of the plant and equipment to proactively identify potential issues, monitor equipment condition, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, driving preventive maintenance and operational reliability.
· Observe and report equipment conditions, such as abnormal sounds, leaks, or performance deviations, to the DCS operator and Supervisor.
6. Maintenance Coordination
· Facilitate effective coordination with the maintenance team for First Line Maintenance Jobs, ensuring timely execution, proper documentation, and alignment with operational priorities to optimize equipment availability and reliability.
· Support maintenance teams by preparing systems for safe intervention (isolation, draining, purging, lock-out/tag-out).
· Remain fully present and vigilant during hot work or other high-risk activities in the field, ensuring strict adherence to HSE standards.
· Ensure all maintenance jobs in the assigned area are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with permit-to-work procedures.
· Confirm that maintenance activities are completed with proper housekeeping, safe conditions restored, and permits closed before resuming operations.
7. Maintenance Support for HSE Compliance
· Provide expert maintenance support for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) area checks, equipment startup/shut-down procedures, and equipment availability/preparation, ensuring that maintenance tasks are executed safely, efficiently, and in strict compliance with regulatory requirements and operational standards.
Support continuous improvement in HSE performance and operational practices.
Qualification
- Technical HND in Engineering, Process Operations, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; OR

Technical Diploma, GCE O-Level, or equivalent qualification, with relevant industrial/plant operations experience.
Experience
-
Minimum 7 years’ experience in industrial operations, preferably within the Fertilizer, Petrochemical, Oil, or Gas industries.

Sustained performance rating of “Strong” or above.

Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and identify abnormalities in plant parameters promptly and take corrective actions to maintain operational integrity.

Interlock & Trip Diagrams: Familiarity with Interlock and Trip diagrams, including Cause & Effect matrix, to understand and manage equipment interconnections and safety systems effectively.

Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs): Capable of utilizing and verifying Standard Operation Procedures to ensure compliance and consistency in operations.
